The Intercity New Generation can technically run across the border as well. But the NS is not being instructed to do so now. International train travel for both border commuters and international travelers becomes much easier if existing trains do not stop before the border but connect to trains in the neighbouring country.

We
rail passengers and stakeholders
establish that:
- intercity lines in the Netherlands now do not cross the border at Hengelo/Enschede, Arnhem, Venlo, Heerlen, Maastricht, Breda and Roosendaal
- there is a great demand for international train travel, which is why it is often sold out or overpriced
- expansion of international connections between capital cities is difficult in the short term due to a shortage of personnel and equipment
- any intercity now connects poorly with local local trains that do cross the border
- the "main rail network" (the national concession) is now very limited, exclusively domestic, and that is obsolete in a united Europe
- intercity new generation trains are suitable for rail across the border
and request
a main rail network and associated public transport concession with connections to rail hubs across the border to connect with rail connections in neighboring countries.
